Arianespace has been selected by SES for the launching of their all-electric SES 12 satellite on board an Ariane 5 rocket-powered vehicle late in 2017. This will be the 40th SES satellite launching on board an Ariane rocket. SES 12 is a hybrid satellite weighing 5.3k KG and ADS (Airbus Defence and Space) is currently constructing it as a replacement for the NSS 6 satellite adding incremental capacity from a position in orbit of 95 degrees east to cover the Asia-Pacific area.
The satellite has a conventional mission of wide beam coverage carrying 54 transponders for VSAT, government and Direct to Home (DTH) clients. The satellite’s other half will carry 81 spot beams ( 70 Ku-band and 11 Ka-band) for a capacity exceeding 14gHz serving government, mobility and VSAT clients. The HT (high throughput) payload will also support a DTP (Digital Transparent Processor) to provide an increase in flexibility of payload and to enhance its capability for anti-jamming.
