Arabsat, KACST Awards Order for Two Satellites to Lockheed Martin

KACST (the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology) and Arabsat have awarded a two satellite contract to Lockheed Martin; the satellites are Hellas-Sat 4/SaudiGeoSat 1 and Arabsat 6 and will both utilise the A2100 framework which has been aggressively modernised by Lockheed Martin so that they can capture a greater slice of the market sector.

The fleet operated by Arabsat now numbers 10 in total with the addition of the two new satellites, which will be used for improved telecoms services including telephony, broadband and television to Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Hellas-Sat 4/SaudiGeoSat 1 will be positioned at 39 degrees east with Hellas-Sat 4/SaudiGeoSat orbiting at 30.5 degrees east. The two satellites have a planned 2018 launch; Arianespace and Arabsat have already signed a contract to utilise an Ariane 5 space vehicle for the launch of HellaSat 4/ SaudiGeoSat 1.
