C-band Payload for Sentinel 1B Completed by Airbus Defence and Space

The C-band radar instrumentation for the Sentinel 1b satellite has been shipped by Airbus Defence and Space to primary contractor TAS (Thales Alenia Space) for testing and integration. After completion, the satellite – part of the Copernicus program – is planned for a 2016 blast off, after which it will be teamed up with its twin, another Sentinel 1A. Copernicus is an operational program led by the European Commission as a joint venture with the ESA (European Space Agency).
