First of Three Testing Phases Completed by Iridium NEXT Platform

The Iridium NEXT software platform, a development by top level contractor Thales Alenia Space with Selex Galileo also making contributions, has undergone a completion of the initial test phase. The test is the first of three that need to achieve completion prior to this year’s initial launching of Iridium NEXT, and covers full flight functionality, including solar array navigation and positioning, and attitude control. The following two phases of testing will cover integration of systems and improved functionality for increased autonomy in the operation and recovery of anomalies. Iridium NEXT’s software platform functions in a similar way to current Iridium satellites, allowing autonomy when recovering from issues occurring during orbit.
