Lockheed Martin’s Third MUOS Secure Communications Satellite Responding To Commands after Successful Launch

Lockheed Martin’s third MUOS (Mobile User Objective System) satellite built for the United States Navy has had a successful launch today and is now operating successful command responses. A company-led initialization team sited in California at the Naval Base in Ventura County’s Point Mugu, currently operates the MUOS-3 satellite from the NSOC (Naval Satellite Operations Center).

The satellite constellation operating the MUOS functions in a similar way to an orbiting smartphone network, providing a significant improvement for the mobile secure satellite communications of mobilised war fighters. The improvement that MUOS provides is an on-demand ability for users to receive and transmit high quality prioritised mission and voice data beyond the line of sight, through the utilisation of a high speed system based on Internet protocols.
