One piece of scuttlebutt from conference season grabbed our attention.
As previously reported, O3b experienced failures in orbit and an insurance claim was made. Two years on, no announcement has been made. It has been rumoured that this may be because the claim has been apparently rendered invalid by the discovery that the O3b CEO was made aware on the launchpad by manufacturer TAS that there was a component on board that had recently failed on another satellite in orbit. The CEO allegedly chose to proceed with launch and as a result, allegedly has no insurance cover.
It will be interesting to see whether the investors OneWeb is targeting are prepared to trust their money to former O3b CEO Greg Wyler.
