Ownership of independent towers in Nigeria to reach 75%

An expert has reported that before long Nigeria will be the first country in Africa to reach a 75% global average of telecom tower ownership by independent businesses.

African telecom businesses in countries like Nigeria are liquidising tower infrastructure with private business as the main purchaser, emulating the precedents set in America and Europe. The sale of the infrastructure opens up more opportunities for leasing and also helps with a reduction of capital expenditure for telecom operators. IHS Holding has purchased 9,151 of MTN’s base stations in Nigeria, and they have also bought 2,136 of Etisalat’s towers.
