More Qatari students looking to join the space industry

More students of engineering in Qatar are registering their desire to join their country’s fast-growing space technology sector, a Qatar Satellite Company’s (Es’hailSat) representative informed the Gulf Times. Mohamed Waleed al-Sayed, senior satellite project engineer for the company stated: “Satellite operation and space technology is quite new in Qatar.

“Though the country is more known for its oil and gas sector, there are a lot of Qataris willing to work for Es’hailSat.” He went on to say that that Es’hailSat was currently busy preparing for the launch of its next satellite, Es’hail 2 at the end of 2016, and – of greater importance – the design and build of the first teleport facility in Qatar. Al-Sayed stated that Es’hailSat has just entered into an agreement with SES Techcom Services based in Luxembourg to access the company’s technical expertise, acting as engineering consultants for the teleport, which will enable Es’hailSat to operate its satellite from within Qatar.
