A Request for Information has been issued by the United Kingdom Space Agency with regard to “hardware/software payloads and potentially novel platform components” for a combined ASAL (UKSA-Algerian Space Agency) operation to produce Alsat 1N, a 3U Nano-Satellite.
There is an intention by the agency to announce the opportunity fully in December, with the expected launch date of the satellite forecast for 2016 in the second quarter. Alsat 1N’s operation, including design and build will be effected in part by graduate students from Algeria, for whom education is the priority. Design of the platform hardware has been allocated to the UK. After completion of the design and build at Surrey Space Center, ASAL’s facility for satellite development will receive Alsat 1N in order to conduct operations.
