Russian Rocket Launch Failure Causes Loss of Mexican Satellite


The government of Mexico has reported that a communications has been lost as a result of a Russian rocket failure on Saturday just minutes after blasting off from Kazakhstan. ILS (International Launch Services), the launch company reported that the space vehicle disintegrated over eastern Siberia after failing approximately eight minutes after launch from the cosmodrome in Baikonour.

Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Mexico’s Transport and Communications Minister, speaking at a news conference said that the launch of the Centenario satellite which was on board the Proton-M rocket was fully insured for the cost of the launch, which was approximately $390m.
