Satellite Companies Want to Create a Splash in IFC Market

A change in direction is happening in the market place for IFEC (In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity) providers, which was evident at the latest renewal of the APEX (Airline Passenger Experience) expo staged at Portland, Ore.

Panasonic Avionics Corporation VP of global communications services David Bruner was interviewed last week at APEX, he said: “What’s changed from last year? Every satellite operator is here at this show because we are buying so much capacity.” He was making a reference to the unmistakeable presence of satellite service providers, including such heavyweights as SES, Intelsat and Inmarsat that are making appearances at shows such as the Global Connected Aircraft Summit or APEX, as technology in space is seeking to evolve the developing landscape of IFC, which up to now has been supported by terrestrial technology, ATG (Air-to-ground).
