Satellite delivered by SSL to launch base in Kourou for Embratel Star One

Leading commercial satellite provider Space Systems/Loral (SSL) has announced today that the Star One C4, built and designed for Embratel Star One has made it safely to Kourou’s European Spaceport in French Guiana, where it will blast off on board Arianespace’s Ariane 5 rocket. The launch will mark the 50th mission with Arianespace and SSL, whose president John Celli said: “Embratel Star One and SSL share a commitment to improving Latin America’s communications infrastructure and providing exceptional service, Star One C4, which is an advanced and powerful satellite, also has special significance to SSL as our 50th mission with Arianespace.”

After launching, the satellite will be positioned in a hot spot orbit to transmit major Brazilian TV station signals, and 22-25 million parabolic aerials will be pointed towards it. Forty Eight transponders (signal transmitters and receivers) will be the main feature of Star One C4 in KU-Band, which will increase the current 70 W orbital capacity by a factor of three at these frequencies including BSS use.
