Success no.62 for Ariane 5 Places Argentina in the Driving Seat of Satcom

On 16th October a pair of telecoms satellites were placed into orbit by the Europe-based Ariane heavy duty rocket as part of successful operation number 62 for the vehicle. The launch elevates Argentina to a club of nations who operate – and have built – space craft with a geostationary orbit.

After launch completion Argentinean representatives emphasised that they had resolved to avoid a repetition of previous experiences when non-Argentinean commercial activity came close to causing lost access to the geostationary band where the majority of telecom satellite operations occur.
