After successful satellite launch high-speed broadband will now be booted by Inmarsat.

Inmarsat’s second next-generation superfast broadband satellite has been successfully launched. The second of the company’s second Global Xpress satellites – Inmarsat-5 F2 – was launched on board a Proton rocket at 12.31pm on Sunday from Kazaktan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The satellite will join Global Express’s £1.1bn ($1.6bn) Global Xpress network from which the company plans to provide mobile broadband cover to users regardless of their location on air, sea and land; the service is 100 times quicker than current services provided by the company. Launch number three is planned for 2015’s second quarter and will commence services in the latter half of the year.
