Three Military Satellite Orders Awarded to Airbus and Thales by France.

Airbus Defence and Space and Thales have been selected by the DGA (Direction Générale de L’Armement) in France to work jointly as primary contractors for three military satellites. The organisations are to build SIGINT (Space Signal Intelligence) or CERES (Capacité de Renseignement Electromagnétique Spatiale) capacity, which will utilise a trio of satellites positioned closely together in order to detect and locate radar signalling and radio-telecoms on the ground.

ADS (Airbus Defence and Space) was assigned the task of constructing each satellite’s space segment by the DGA, and the payloads were assigned to Thales. A segment for ground control will be provided by CNES, the French space agency along with a ground segment for users which will be utilised by Thales for the processing of data and programming of satellites.
