WRC-115 Discussions to be Held about Global Flight Tracking Spectrum Allocations

The recent Plenipotentiary Conference saw the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) resolve to place globalised flight tracking on its agenda at WRC-15 (2015 World Radiocommunication Conference). They also resolved to give an instruction to the Radiocommunication Bureau of ITU’s director to make a submission to WRC-15 of a study that specifically covers two full years of studies on the subject by the ITU Radiocommunication Sector.

Since flight MH 370 went missing, dialogue over globalised tracking of flights has been expedited. The Malaysian minister of communications and multimedia, Ahmad Shabery Cheek, called for real time global commercial aircraft tracking solutions to be sped up by ITU.
